Frequently Asked Questions

Solid wire or flux core - which wire do I need?

Solid ER70S-6 with C25 gas for clean indoor welds on steel; gasless E71T-GS flux core for outdoor or no-bottle setups. Simder machines run both - just flip polarity when you swap.

0.030 vs 0.035 wire - what is the difference?

0.030 in feeds better on thin sheet and auto body; 0.035 in carries more amperage for 1/8 in steel and up. Match your contact tip size to whatever wire you load.

Can I MIG weld aluminum with standard wire?

Only on the SD-4050Pro with pulse MIG, using 4043 aluminum wire and 100% argon - and a U-groove drive roll setup. Standard machines will bird-nest soft aluminum wire instantly.

How should I store welding wire?

Sealed in its original bag, off concrete, in a dry space. Flux core is especially moisture-sensitive - damp flux core causes porosity and worm-tracking. A 10 lb roll stored well lasts months.
